Miserable is the man who loves a woman and takes her for a wife, pouring at her feet the sweat of his skin and the blood of his body and the life of his heart, and placing in her hands the fruit of his toil and the revenue of hi s diligence; for when he slowly wakes up, he finds that the heart, which he endeavoured to buy, is given freely and in sincerity to another man for the enjoyment of its hidden secrets and deepest love. Miserable is the woman who arises from the inattentiveness and restlessness of youth and finds herself in the home of a man showering her with his glittering gold and precious gifts and according her all the honours and grace of lavish entertainment but unable to satisfy her soul with the heavenly wine which God pours from the eyes of a man into the heart of a woman.

I knew Rashid Bey Namaan since I was a youngster; he was a Lebanese, born and reared in the City of Beyrouth. Being a member of an old and rich family which preserved the tradition and glory of his ancestry, Rashid was fond of citing incidents that dealt mainly with the nobility of his forefathers. In his routine life he followed their beliefs and customs which, at that time, prevailed in the Middle East.

Rashid Bey Namaan was generous and good-hearted, but like many of the Syrians, looked only at the superficial things instead of reality. He never hearkened to the dictates of his heart, but busied himself in obeying the voices of his environment. H e amused himself with shimmering objects that blinded his eyes and heart to life’s secrets; his soul was diverted away from an understanding of the law of nature, and to a temporary self-gratification. He was one of those men who hastened to confess their love or disgust to the people, then regretted their impulsiveness when it was too late for recall. And then shame and ridicule befell them, instead of pardon or sanction.

Great book on cybersecurity. Covers everything from A-Z. Whether your are building a new security framework for your company, or reengineering an existing one, this book systematically lays out all of the steps from beginning to end. Detailed appendices are really useful for those engineers and managers who require a deeper dive on components of the security program. Hats off to these experienced engineer-architects who took the time to write a meaningful book on preventing advanced persistent threats, malware, zero day attacks, etc. Camp out at your favorite Starbucks and take your time with this book.

As a consultant (and for sales), this book is invaluable. It explains concepts in simple terms with excellent graphics. It subsequently dives into how to build and maintain the best cybersecurity defense based on real-life scenarios where there are resource contingencies (human, capital, other).

The appendices provide in-depth details and references (NIST, ISO, others) and describes the items to be considered when writing a policy, operationalizing a cybersecurity program, assessment considerations and related formulas and graphics. These could be very helpful even for anyone who already has a program in place and wants to evaluate it. Cybersecurity is a dynamic and evolving environment and one can find in this book how to maintain an established program.

As another reviewer indicated, most of the photographic illustrations in the book are in black and white, which is highly unfortunate. I don't know if it was a thematic conceit on the part of the book's author/designer, but the only colour plates appearing within the book are of the exhibition modelli. Sometimes, albeit rarely, there is an additional colour detail plate of the modello under discussion.

It would have been a great boon to the book's overall presentation quality and value to have had more detail photographs, especially in view of the various author's statements commending Rubens' deft brushwork, to actually show that brushwork throughout via detail photographs (in colour). Indeed, even in the individual colour oil sketches comprising the exhibit, the author/designer did not make use of the book's ample page size, but in many instances showed diminutive photographs of same. There was an occasional full page reproduction (I believe 4 in total). I wish there had been many, many more, even if they had to switch the viewing print axis. Many of the black and white photos were so small (around 4 x 5 inches) and lacking in detail, and sometimes legibility, that their use as a talking point in reference to the text was rendered moot. Sometimes, following the colour print of the modello there was a photograph of the finished painting derived from same -- again, only in black and white, and often very small in size. It would have been wonderful to see the final resultant painting in colour and of suitable size so a comparison of the two (sketch and final painting) would have been possible. Perhaps there was a lack of available photographs of finished or derivative artwork pertaining to the exhibit; perhaps it was strictly a monetary consideration; then again, perhaps it was a conscious publication conceit. Whatever the reason, this was the biggest miss for me as far as this book was concerned.

On the plus side, and there very much is a plus side, the essays and general text were excellent and the text accompanying each oil sketch was quite academically thorough and well researched. So, if insightful essays on Rubens and detailed commentary on individual oil sketches are more to your tastes, then I do recommend this book. The topic at hand, i.e., oil sketches, was excellently covered and detailed and researched, even covering the provenance, previous exhibitions, and literature surrounding each piece.

As far as an overall score for this review, despite the outstanding text, the visual artist side of me has to mark it down for lack of illustrative presentation and poor use of the available page size to represent the art properly.
