A slow burn that just gets hotter and hotter until it's on FIRE!!!

As I started reading, I thought to myself, "There is NO WAY I'm going to stick around for this flirtation between a billionaire and a supermarket cook." Three minutes later, I was hooked and couldn't stop reading all the way to the unexpected cliffhanger that has me ACHING for the next book... as in, NOW, please!!!!

The relationship between Micah and Nori is like nothing I've read before. Micah is rich and good-looking. Busty blondes are like candy to him... cheap and gone quickly... until he's WRECKED by the presence of the sassy curvy chef who's totally not his usual type. She whips his usual "game" right back at him with a spicy sarcasm that only makes him want her more. The verbal sparring is delightful and hilarious with a supremely sexy undertone that only builds. And builds. And builds.

I'm not going to give it away, but it all stokes into a fire that's unstoppable and HOTTTT!!! Can't wait for Book 2.

Shelby Mitchell has outdone herself with this one! This was unique: a romance written from the male's point of view. Ingenious! Extremely well written and funny, I couldn't put the book down until I was finished. Can't wait for the next book in the series. Just bummed that it won't be out until March!

Actionable Content, Sage Advice from Advertising and Marketing Experts

I received the Kindle edition of this book from Net Galley for considering to write a review. (The edition I reviewed was a pre-release version and the image below is from that file. What you see there is no longer relevant but I cannot remove the image.)

I own two other Perry Marshall books (Google AdWords and 80/20 Sales and Marketing) so I was looking forward to reading this one on Facebook. Also, until I read this book I knew little about advertising on Facebook.

Here is my feedback divided into four categories.

1. Direct marketing. Much of your success in using FB is going to depend on how good you are at writing advertising copy. The authors go into detail about direct marketing best practices and then apply these to the unique features that FB gives us to create and manage campaigns. There are also numerous comparisons here to Google AdWords which will help those familiar with that platform get up to speed that much more quickly.

2. Applicability. There are many social networks, each with their own unique audience profile and community protocols. The first question any marketer needs to ask him or herself is whether that social network is a match for a particular business. They address this up front in Chapter 2 and in great detail. It's the kind of knowledge that could save you a lot of trouble and money. (Actually, you might want to try to understand this before even buying the book...too bad it is beyond the sample size to read it but you can also visit IsFBforME.com as a starting point.)

3. Style and presentation. The reading is easy, conversational, and to the point. No fluff. Again, those familiar with the AdWords book will be right at home with this book. In this regard I think the print book has a leg up on the ebook. There is so much information that you'll find yourself bouncing back and forth in the book which is much easier to do in print.

4. On-going support. Like any book on a fast moving tech topic, the information is bound to get dated quickly. In fact, in mid-November, just a couple weeks after publication, FB announced changes to how promoted posts are handled. To help combat this problem the authors maintain a web page that offers a way to get updates. This sort of on-going support isn't something you'll find with many of the other books on the topic, at least at this level and quality of presentation.

The volume of content here is a bit overwhelming, but if Facebook is a key part of your business or brand, you'll find the advice and strategies first class.

Great book for beginners who want to create a quick ad. Not comprehensive enough for more skilled advertisers.

This was a pretty good book., especially for beginners. It provides great definitions and detailed screenshots. The chapter title and some of the content was a little gimmicky, but there's good information to get started. The book spends a lot more time on the details of Facebook advertising (images, bidding, etc.) than on the fundamentals, executing a campaign, but it was still a great book and one that I would recommend for beginners who are seeking to get started with a quick ad on Facebook.

Underdelivered

This book was not as great as I expected, FB changes so quickly that it is already out of date even though it was published in Jan. Due to this a website link is offered to see the updates, but it's more a ploy to constantly bombard your inbox with email to self promote the Perry Marshall brand, as is some of the other links suggested. There were some good tips and information, but overall I didn't get the nuts and bolts as it suggests by the title "Ultimate Guide".

About the Author
GILLIAN SANSON is a women's health educator, researcher and author. She was menopause educator for the New Zealand Family Planning Association Northern Region from 1996 to 2001 and is currently a guest educator for organizations companies and groups including Women's Health Action Trust NZ. Mid-Life Energy and Happiness (Penguin Books NZ) was published in 1999 in NZ, the UK and Australia. The Osteoporosis Epidemic : Well Women and the Marketing of Fear (Penguin Books NZ 2001) challenges common misconceptions about osteoporosis and provides valuable knowledge on how to create and maintain bone health. In 2003 she toured and lectured in the United States and Canada in association with the release of The Myth of Osteoporosis (MCD Century Publications). Her work has received international recognition and endorsement and was the subject of a 20/20 documentary in NZ in 2001. Gill lives in Auckland, New Zealand.

Orthopedic Surgeon Viewpoint

I am an orthopedic surgeon with no ties to pharmaceutical companies. This book minimizes a large and growing problem. Fragility fractures are difficult to treat. They require special techniques for handling in the operating room. They don't hold implants even though special types of implants are being designed that might help in the future. Fragility fractures recur with a downward spiral of disability and death following the initial fracture. She correctly states that "only" 14% of otherwise healthy women die from fracture related complications in the first year after a hip fracture. The word "only" is her word...14% a huge death rate for healthy people regardless of age and most are less than 80. She blames doctors for killing patients and says 14% death rate is acceptable in this disease? That's not the doctors, it's the disease. Osteopororis robs people of an active lifestyle. Look at her daughter who has six fractures by age 25. How could she deny that's not a problem?
She correctly quotes a research study by DM Black showing that alendronate decreased fracture rate by 50% but the placebo group had 2.2% fractures and the alendronate group had 1.1% for an absolute fracture reduction of 1%. She belittles that but fails to recognize that this study was 3 years only. A 50% fracture reduction over 30 years is highly meaningful. Women have a 16% fracture risk between ages 50 and 80. A 50% reduction of fracture rate over that period of time would be substantial and life-saving for thousands of women. Short term studies should not be extrapolated to represent the true impact of treatment.
I do agree that nutrition can do more if people would pay attention to other nutrients besides calcium and vitamin D. She got that right, but osteoporosis is not a trivial problem and pharmactutical companies do help lots of people enjoy better lives.

This book is essential reading for anyone diagnosed with (or to be tested for) osteoporosis or osteopenia. It examines with thoughtfulness and great knowledge the process from DEXA scan to diagnosis to medication, raising crucial questions every step of the way. Just as HRT was pushed as a panacea by almost all doctors for years, only to turn out to cause the very heart disease and cancer it was supposed to help, so Sanson shows that this huge multi-billion-dollar osteoporosis industry is built on one questionable premise after another. The DEXA scan results cannot show the strength--the quality--of bone, a crucial factor. As for bone density, which it does measure, there is little or no correlation between bone density and fracture. Most older people who fracture have normal bone density or mildly low. The whole idea of measuring elderly women's bones against the standard of those of young women (possibly athletes) in their prime is itself questionable. Sanson shows how truly small the gains from bisphosphonates are, how deceiving the percentages presented, and how serious the side effects. This full story of the drugs is just starting to come out now, after the certitudes with which doctors proscribed Fosamax, Actonel, and Forteo just a few years ago. She takes every detail of what women are told and exposes it to the light of day. Consider the terror generated by the endlessly repeated claim that hip fracture is very frequent in the elderly and is a death sentence. Sanson counters by evidence and good sense that those who fracture hips are preponderantly the very old, often in their late 80s and 90s, and that those of die of it are likely to have many other illnesses, with poor vision and often dementia as well, perhaps alone in nursing homes; but that a fairly healthy elderly person will recover. Sanson checks out Vitamin D, Calcitonin, Strontium--gives a whole chapter to the confusing but crucial subject of calcium (not a good solution)--gives a wise exercise overview--and thinks reducing the risks of falling is most important of all to prevent fractures. She wants us to question physicians, and to accept that aging is not a disease. Sanson's whole family was diagnosed with osteoporosis years ago, and she had to decide whether to permit her children to be medicated, so her relation to the researching of this subject began with that urgency. For years a professional medical health writer, she approaches it with an independence that is as rare as it is precious. If this condition is of any concern to you, you must read this book!

Saved Myself

I broke my leg 8 months ago after falling while scurrying across a wet, and newly waxed, floor, while trying to save a cup of coffee and laptop at the same time. Recently, I had a bone mineral density (BMD) test, and my doctor prescribed Fosamax, I decided I needed to do a little research. This book and Dr. Susan Ott's web page provided all the information I needed.

I think I saved my life! According to the risk factors in the book and the BMD test, I'm not a high risk! I'm 58, 130 lbs., very active (Zumba, skiing, gardening, etc), eat a healthy diet (no soda for years, very little dairy, and lots of protein & veggies, mostly local), and tan very easily. After reading this book, I am absolutely convinced that taking any of those biphosphonates would be a very bad idea! Thankfully, I decided to do the research before following my doctor's advice.

After reading the book, I went back to the doctor. She was not familiar with the book, and claimed, that as a general practitioner, she's not as knowledgeable as specialists. I asked her about the Z scores on my test. She said she doesn't refer to those. I asked for a blood test to determine the level of vitamin D. I also wanted the details of my BMD test. Well, my level of D is 33. The avg. is 40. I'm taking 2000 IU a day of vitamin D, plus what I get in my diet.

Without this book, I would know nothing about the 16 risk factors, the different brands and effects of biphosphonates, the BMD test history and $$ involved, other tests, and other osteoporosis studies. Like I said, I think I saved my life!

Not my first choice for a basic book

Very politically correct, and thus helpful if you plan on speaking to a cross-cultural audience. I had it for an introductory public-speaking college course (undergrad), and found it too heavy on PC and not heavy enough on basic public-speaking skills, an overall frustrating experience.

I ordered this book because it was required for my speech class. It did have a lot of common sense information that most people would already know but the book was very helpful, informative and interesting. Even if the book is not a requirement, I would recommend to anyone seeking a higher level of knowledge in speaking.

Excellent book, but may not be necessary.

I literally used only 2 pages from this book and made an A in my speech class. I honestly don't know if I should consider that a good thing because the book was expensive for being 1s and 0s on my PC. Unless your instructor is going to be quizzing/making exams from the book I suggest you save your money and simply get the 2 pages that illustrate the outline. If you have a speech instructor/professor/teacher earning their pay this book is pointless. Two Stars for the 2 pages. I am by no means belittling the author or his effort, the book has a lot of excellent information for future public speakers but if speech as a class is nothing more than something to mark off on your degree/graduation plan then just find the speech outline.

Not bad-Mostly film related

I agree that the majority of the work is film related. I was a little disappointed by this, but the cover image resembles one of the covers of the DVDs I own. Using "Chuck Palahnuk's" name implies book related, but in truth he just writes the intro.

I love the discussions and am one that likes to push the envelope in making something relevant. I agree that at times I caught myself rolling my eyes at some of the comparisons, but I like the idea that the writers were tying this to something concrete (something they found to be a cultural mile stone).

I don't know that Chuck has become a first name member of the great and holy canon of American Literature, but do feel he has much to say about the last 10 years, culture and society. I personally am intrigued by Will Christopher Baer and would love to see something similiar written on his work. I also like Charlie Huston and Denis Johnson (I throw these names out more as a point of reference of what I see as similiar material and to give my bias as a reader than anything else).

It isn't the best criticism ever written, but if you like criticism that is relevant to the changes in society and dares try to get in the head of "Fight Club" (be it film or book-although, I do wish it was more novel related), this is not a bad read.

not what I thought it was, but still a good buy

While I had assumed this was a new book by my favorite author, and it wasnt, it would still be a necessity for anyone in a highschool or college english class for analyzing Chuck Palahniuk's book, Fight Club. Besides the foreword by Chuck himself, there are 17 different interpretations of Fight Club the book, Fight Club the movie, and even Mr. Palahniuk. You really get a good feel for what people took away from the story, and a new view on every angle of the plot and characters.

Hopefully you'll pay closer attention to which format you're ordering (unlike me!), because the board book is VERY abbreviated

Have to admit to being initially disappointed when I received this today, a favorite I recall reading to my sons, and realized I'd mistakenly ordered the board book rather than the hardcover. (Maybe I DO need that new pair of reading glasses after all!) I really don't care for how reviews for all formats are combined on a listing, because I'd find it hard to imagine that this board book would garner a 5 star rating from anyone who remembers the full story, since - if you're familiar with it - it entirely leaves out the part of the little bird asking an old car, boat and plane if any of them are his mother, and the baby bird's recounting his travels to his mother once he finally finds her. Obviously, board books are abbreviated, but this is REALLY abbreviated.

Suppose the reason I'm giving this 4 stars is because I do think that - given its brevity and very simple words - it'd be a good little (and I do mean little at 5-3/4" x 4-1/4"x 1/2 thick) book for tiny hands to turn by themselves, with thick coated pages that are forgiving of occasionally sticky little fingers. Would be a nice little piece of reading material for a child just learning to read. It's my own fault, and I'll be ordering the hardback as well, but maybe you'd like to know exactly how it reads before making a decision for yourself:

"A mother bird sat on her egg. The egg jumped. 'I must get something for my baby bird to eat!' she said. So away she went. Inside the nest, the egg jumped. It jumped and jumped and jumped. Until......out came a baby bird! 'Where is my mother?' he said. He did not see her anywhere. 'I will go and look for her,' he said. Out of the nest he went. Down, down, down! Plop! The baby bird could not fly. But he could walk. 'Now I will go and find my mother,' he said. 'Are you my mother?' the baby bird asked a kitten. The kitten just looked and looked. It did not say a thing. 'Are you my mother?' the baby bird asked a hen. 'No,' said the hen. 'Are you my mother?' the baby bird asked a dog. 'I am not your mother. I am a dog,' said the dog. 'Are you my mother?' the baby bird asked a cow. 'How could I be your mother?' said the cow. 'I am a cow.' The baby bird stopped to think. The kitten and the hen were not his mother. The dog and the cow were not his mother. 'I have a mother,' said the baby bird. 'I know I do. I will find her. I will. I WILL!' Just then the baby bird saw a big thing." (A power shovel.) "YOU are my mother!' he said. The big thing said, 'SNORT!' 'Oh no!' said the baby bird. 'You are not my mother. You are a scary snort!' The Snort lifted the baby bird up, up, up. Then something happened. The Snort put the baby bird right back in the tree. The baby bird was home! Just then the mother bird came back. 'I know who YOU are,' said the baby bird. 'You are not a kitten or a hen or a dog. You are not a cow or a Snort! You are a bird, and you are my mother!' "

Purple vs Red

I have the original purple booklet published by Dr, Westman. I lost 37 pounds following the diet in the original book. I was excited to be notified that a new Red booklet was out by Dr. Westman. I ordered it thinking there would be a host of new information. It was the same exact great information with a few additions that do not change the original diet. So with that said, order the 2nd booklet and you will have all that Dr Westman has to offer. There is no need to order both.

Terrific resource for my patients

As a psychologist, this book has enormous value, and welcomed simplicity, for many of my clients. It is an easy resource for me to give to people. I have myself followed this approach, lost 20% of my body weight (50 pounds), and am keeping it off. This works. It is NOT a detailed book. It is a handy reference for the first reader. If you're serious about weight loss, buy, and then follow, this.
