If you haven't yet read Prejudice Meets Pride you should bump it to the top of your to read list!

Love, Love, Love!! Rachael did it again! This book is so fun.

I'm a huge Rachael Anderson fan. The first blog tour I ever set up was one I offered to do for her book The Reluctant Bachelorette which has been my favorite book she wrote. I loved it and wanted other people to love it too so I took a leap and set up a tour for her book. Prejudice Meets Pride may have bumped The Reluctant Bachelorette off that pedestal as my favorite book by Rachael.

Take one prideful girl and cross her with one prejudice boy and you get a whole lot of fun. Romantic comedies are typically my favorite kind of romances to read so this was a bound to be a hit with me. Laugh out loud funny this book made me smile and sigh. Such a great read.

This book reads perfectly as a stand alone but there are 2 more books planned in the series. They are more what I would consider companion novels as they will be based on characters who had small roles in this book.

If you haven't yet read Prejudice Meets Pride you should bump it to the top of your to read list!

Tim Walden took over Walden’s Photography from his father in 1980, taking the studio in an entirely different direction when they developed their trademark “Relationship” Black and White Fine Art portraiture.

This is a nice book to provide inspirational ideas for portraits emotionally linking more than one subject. Tim provides his lighting formula, which is used repeatedly, as well as his insights about various nuances he considered with the various example portraits. Tim and his wife operate a successful portrait studio, as well as an online education business. Their solid success is proof that photography skills PLUS business skills make for the winning formula. This book doesn't delve into that area, however their business education products are available for purchase through their online education site.

Tim Walden's book, Relationship Portraits, is an excellent resource that discusses the value and importance of connecting with the clients portrait photographers work with. Walden focuses on and demonstrates exactly why it is so important for portraitists to connect with their clients on a personal level in order to tell their story through the photograph.

Relationship Portraits in not a story book with images. If one takes the time to read into the stories within, one will find a wealth of information regarding how and why Walden photographed each subject in a way that needs no words to tell their story. This book is about the heart and soul of portrait photography; it is a refreshing and unique perspective in a world of "how to" books in photography. Well done sir.

Good book but NOT for beginners

Ayurvedic Healing Cuisine has some delicious recipes but this book is only useful if you are an experienced cook and have plenty of time. Last night I made the Kofta recipe on p.83. Delicious, but 2+ hours prep time. I am an ex-professional cook (western style) and new to Indian & Ayurvedic cooking. This book sat on my shelf for 3 months until I developed skills to use it. Also, the instructions simply don't work. The Chila recipe on p. 104 needs water added to the batter to make it thin enough to pour. Nowhere in the instructions. The Kofta recipe was impossible as written. I had to "wing it". The results were delicious, but both recipes needed "tweaking" or they would have ended-up as compost instead of on the table.

For beginners and for recipes with 20-30 minute prep times, I recommend Usha Lad's book. Hers is hands-down the best beginners book for ayurvedic and Indian cooking. You can use her recipes right from the book exactly as written.

In spite of its flaws as a cook book, Ayurvedic Healing Cuisine has great material on Ayurvedic principles including seasonal menus and food correspondences for days of the week. Very worthwhile for serious students of ayurveda.

As a cookbook, you must deal with flaws:
1. elaborate recipes with no prep times listed (I estimate 1-3 hours for many of them).
2. Recipes which require soaking ingredients a day in advance - pretty normal for Indian food BUT it would help if this info was presented on top instead of buried 3 or 6 lines down as: "Surprise! You can't cook this today!"
3. You must possess sufficient cooking skills and appetite for experimentation to TWEAK the recipes, because they don't work as written.

In spite of these difficulties, both recipes I cooked were yummy and healthy and it gets easier the 2nd time if you keep notes or remember how you tweaked the recipe to make it work.

Round out your vegetarian cooking with some knowledge of the Ayurvedas

I am a vegetarian for ethical reasons and I enjoy cooking. There are a few cookbooks that I turn to from time to time for concepts and ideas. Recipes are how you learn to cook but as you get cooking, you learn what it is that makes your food taste good or feel good (we have all had meals, hopefully not at home, which left us feeling sick afterwards). I wanted to get some understanding of Ayurvedic principles underlying traditional Indian vegetarian cooking. I am not at all religious and some small parts of the book strike me as a bit unscientific in explaining why something might work or not. However, other parts of Ayurvedic theory of medicine make sense to me. What do I expect this book to do for me? I am already an experienced and good cook so I don't expect to learn new recipes. I bought this book because I wanted to know about Ayurvedic ingredient combinations that are optimal as well as to gain some knowledge of cooking for particular conditions (say stomach problems, chills...) which we are faced with in our daily lives with our families. And this I think is a unique contribution. The fantastic North Indian vegetarian recipes are just icing on the cake. I think any cook (vegetarian or otherwise) and those interested in holistic living should have this book in their collection.

excellent Ayurvedic information, standard recipes

The front part of this book has really excellent information on Ayurveda in general. The recipe section, however, has no information or recommendations about which dosa should or should not eat the prepared food. This might be confusing for someone new to Ayurveda and daunting for someone just looking for recipes that are dosa specific. It is, however, a classic and will be a part of my Ayurvedic reference library.

Kevin is one of the most knowledgeable astrologers in the world. He's able to distill and present concepts in an approachable, concise manner. That ability is the defining characteristic of a good teacher and it makes learning simpler, faster and much less painful.
The information packed in this tome is accurate, clear and most of all, PRACTICAL, just like the title says. I love that he approaches this incredible art from David R Hawkin's consciousness model. It gives shape, scope and definition to the hidden key of Astrology, Consciousness.
Astrology is a symbol set, it is a means of apprehending the self and Self, the mundane and the arcane. Unfortunately, the art in our time is watered down, muddied and riddled with error and confusion. Kevin's book and his courses shine a clear light in the murky corners, and properly explains the reasons "traditional astrology" is the way it is and how "modern astrology" conflates the archetypes of the signs with the houses. He takes the time to explain how and why the way it was is still the way is. Good methods don't change their fundamentals, they expand their viewpoint and context, but RELY on the fundamentals. Just be glad this book is here and you don't have to translate Latin or read Lily which is almost the same thing :)
This book is a gift to anyone wanting to learn astrology and it elevates the practical art of astrology to its proper place.
I highly recommend this book to any astrologer, newbie or veteran alike.

It's useful and inspiring

I had the chance to be a part of The Real Astrology Academy and I am one of those "ten Intrepid cades" who joined it at its opening back in 2013. As a participating witness of all the work, struggle and fascinating results that Kevin's teaching and coaching involved us in, I was impatient to preorder the book. When it arrived I read it in a single breath - an emotional approach to it, then reread it with concern of its essence and practical use.
Now, I can't ignore the fact of all the work and training done in the Academy, but even based on these acquired knowledge and talents I still find the book is my most precious hand out when doing natal astrology interpretations on my own.

Actually explains how to interpret a natal chart

Do you have a collection of well worn beginner’s astrology books sitting on your shelf, but you still can’t figure out how to interpret a basic natal chart? Is your Mercury in Virgo, do you enjoy detail and practicality? Kevin Burk’s book spells out, step by step, how to interpret a natal chart, something many other beginner books gloss over at the end. Burk’s method will enable you to actually understand and, more importantly, put into practice the ancient art of astrology. And if you can’t get enough of this guy’s method, just check out his online intensive training class which will really take you to the next level. Burk knows his stuff and is able to convey it to his audience in an understandable and precise manner. So, if you are tired of reading the same general descriptions of planets, houses, and signs, and want to actually do your own interpretations, get this book, you won't be disappointed.

Stay Away and Simply use the Online Resources from ESRI

What a cluttered mess. The book starts off good enough as it gives you a skeletal JS application to follow and iterate upon, but the format of each chapter then degrades into an overly summarized API survey without any practical code exercises. Sometimes the text gives you parameters in functions and class instances from the API that are assumed to be in the JS program you are writing, but are not included in the given code snippets. I might as well utilize ESRI's GeoNet or the EDN site as those two resources are just as good as this book, and I would have to go there anyway to look up what I missed! Bad call with this book and it is worth the extra money to check out what ESRI or other providers have to offer. Avoid.

Disappointed

I was disappointed to find that not only was this book written for the 3.7 API (it's currently on 3.11), but that many of the examples and tutorials were ripped straight from freely available ESRI tutorials (this is chapter 7: http://developers.arcgis.com/javascript/samples/find_popup/). If ESRI were aware that he'd ripped their tutorials and sold them for money, I doubt they'd be too thrilled. There is little, if anything, in this book that is not ascertainable through ESRI's Javascript API tutorial. Not only that, but there are quite a few errors in both fundamentals and coding practice.

I used this book to demo whether or not Eric's Geospatial Training Services online classes would be worth the money, but I will be passing.

If you're looking for a book on this subject and want to avoid googling, this is the one. Otherwise, I'd avoid it in the future.

Book is mostly SDK examples from ESRI recycled into a book.

This books doesn't even show you how to put it all together and build an application. Mostly just goes over simple examples which are just the SDK examples anyone can download for free and check out live on ESRI website. Really, the SDK examples were not even spruced up before being put in the book.Maybe they are slightly different but still the same simple SDK examples.

Useful? slightly, maybe more so if you have never touched any of this before but then you should be on the ESRI EDN website not reading through a book that just doesn't seem to have much effort put into it.

Obvious observation from reading the other reviews, these people do not own the book, work for the company that published it and/or have never developed an ArcGIS web application and never intend to.

About the Author
Martin R. de la Pena, a veterinarian and ornithologist, studies the reproduction of birds, on which he has published three books, alongside a dozen others, in his native Argentina. He has also produced several films on the life of birds. Maurice Rumboll, one of Argentina's top naturalists, directs environmental education programs for students and plans interpretive trails, brochure texts, and visitor centers for his country's National Park Administration, whose Ranger Training Institute he formerly headed. Previously he directed visitors' services and research at Iguazu National Park and served as Traveling Naturalist for the Argentine Museum of Natural History.

Good guide, but could be improved. I would recommend it.

I took an extended trip (2 months) through Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay. This book was adequate and quite useful. I wish the range maps weren't in the back of the book, it slows you down a bit. However, from what I have seen, this is probably the best book to carry if you will be traveling over a large part of the region. The pictures are pretty good, but not great. The descriptions are also pretty good, but not great. I understand some concessions had to be made in order to make it a compact field guide. Overall I think a good job was done of balancing information/size of the book. If you can get by without regional range maps then "Birds of Chile" might be the way for you to go. It is a slightly better quality guide. If you want the range maps for the entirety of South America, and you need a compact, "backpacker friendly" guide, then don't hesitate to purchase this one.

Very Portable and Useful Little Guide

I am going birding in Bolivia -- which does not yet have it's own field guide -- later this year. So instead of carrying one guide I need to figure out which combination of books will strike a balance between usefulness and space/weight. I have a feeling this is going to be one of my main resources. It is very portable and so far about 85 percent of the birds I may potentially see are in here. In no way is this book intended to replace a full scale field guide such as "Birds of Columbia" by Hilty or "Birds of the High Andes" but then again it is less than one quarter the size and weight. Also, FYI -- it is quite a bit more than merely an illustrated checklist: you do get a small one paragraph description for each bird, a range map at the back which is a little inconvenient but many full size guides use this format also. The book is probably a little out of date as far as some of the finer points of taxonomy -- but many of the recent arguments are at least explained. All in all -- I feel this will be a very useful book to have along, though it will definitely not be the only book I'll have along.

A mandatory book for South American birders

De la Pe�a & Rumboll's "Birds of Southern South America and Antarctica" is a well illustrated field book with more than 1,000 species of birds from Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, southern Brazil and southern Bolivia, plus Antarctica. Easy to use and carry in the field, one can identify any species fast, being either a male, a female or a juvenile in many cases. Illustrations from Non-Passerine birds are more accurate than Passerine birds. Each plate has the English vernacular name, the latin name and some key informations about the bird sighted as colors (male and female, whether this is the case), habitat and even vocalization in some cases. Unfortunately, the distribution maps for all species are useless and should come after the description of any bird. Despite of the maps, this book is really a good purchase, a mandatory book for South American birders.

By and large, the narrative on nuclear negotiations is dominated by constructivist and realist literature, portraying relations between the US and Iran in ideological terms as a prolonged struggle for regional influence. Embedded within conflict resolution and diplomatic theory, this work attempts to bridge this gap. Drawing upon primary documents and interviews, the text examines negotiation behaviour, and strategies and tools of statecraft, as well as analysing technical aspects of initiatives concerning the nuclear programme.

Practical Approach to JSP/Servlets

I have gone through half of the book. I like the way the concepts are explained with practical examples. All the examples are running fine in IDE( I am using Eclipse with JBoss as server) till now. One may perhaps read Head First Servlets and JSPs to get to know intricacies of various concepts and then attempt examples in this book.
